Announcing: The Hidden Jiu-Jitsu Weekly Fight Break Down Challenge!
I've written in the past about why you should always go to class, especially when you can't train.
I've also talked about the 4 reasons I believe watching videos can be better than going to class.
Both of those blogs are about training your powers of observation and how amazingly helpful developing the skill of observation can be for you as a martial artist.
Today, I want to announce a new weekly challenge to motivate you to make a regular habit of training your powers of observation.
Announcing...
The Hidden Jiu-Jitsu Weekly Fight Breakdown Challenge!
Here's how it's going to work:
- Watch a Jiu-Jitsu competition match or MMA fight online.
- Notice one hidden detail you’ve learned from Hidden Jiu-Jitsu.com during the match that could have helped one of the competitors get a better result.
- Post your analysis (with a timestamp so everyone can see what you’re talking about) in the Hidden Jiu-Jitsu Facebook Group.
Why just one hidden detail?
Because we’re trying to make this a habit. Preferably a daily habit.
After all, the more frequently you do this, the more you will benefit. If you do this daily, you really won't believe how quickly and how dramatically you begin to improve. Not just your skill on the mats, but your ability to analyze, diagnose and fix problems on the spot.
It's like it's own super power, for students and teachers of the art alike!
But if this begins to feel like a chore before you really get addicted, you’ll start procrastinating, getting distracted, getting bored, etc.
So we’ve got to make this challenge small enough so it feels easy and you’re eager to do it no matter what else is going on during your day.
To that end, we're going to make the goal ridiculously small, and say I just want you to notice one hidden detail at a time.
But don't underestimate the power of this!
Small changes can have massive effects if you keep them consistent.
How to win the prize:
For everyone who completes the challenge, you will be entered into a weekly lottery where we send the winner a FREE Hidden Jiu-Jitsu Gi- Patch you can wear proudly as a member of the Hidden Jiu-Jitsu tribe and you'll get a private discount code for the Hidden Jiu-Jitsu course of your choice.
But we have to keep it fair! So here's what we're going to do...
The winners will be selected at random to keep things fair and to keep people motivated to participate. Each participant will be assigned a number, and that number will be entered into a random number generator.
The limit of submissions per week is one per day. So if you submit more than one match per day to the Official Hidden Jiu-Jitsu Facebook Group, I can only grant you one entry for that day.
Also, we're aiming to reward effort, not the quality of your analysis, because we're not interested in whether or not you write Henry’s favorite answer (teacher’s pet!) but whether or not you are making a habit of analyzing Jiu-Jitsu with your new knowledge and skills.
Why?
Because that regular daily effort, done consistently over time, is what’s going to get you to the high levels of skill, not your particular results from any one analysis.
Make sense?
Make it a habit! Preferably a daily habit! And watch your skill and understanding soar.
Happy training.
- Henry
